We here at Gametime feel as though you’re suffering through the offseason as much as some of us are. Never fear, we have something to tide you over until those skates get laced up for the first day of practice. A get to know us segment. It’s been awhile so why not right?
1. Why/How did you become a Blues fan?
None of my family was really into hockey. They still aren't. My best friend’s family exposed me to it in the 90’s when the team had those god awful sweaters with the red in them. After that, I was able to find out when they were on tv and started watching them on my own. (Yes, even when they were on ESPN)
2. How many years have you suffered?
23 or 24 years. Although the first few years I really didn't understand it. (Some would say I still don’t.) Even in my early fandom, I couldn’t understand how a team with Gretzky and Hull couldn’t win a GD cup. Whoa, getting off track here.
3. Favorite Player/Moment?
Favorite Blues player? Pronger/Jax/Schwartz. Favorite non Blues player? Justin Williams. I’m sure some of you can figure out why...
Favorite moment would have to be the Blues winning in 7 against the Hawks. The Winter Classic of course. Anything after that is a drunken blur.
4. How did you begin writing for Game Time?
I just so happened to see a post about needing a recap person. I had done it in the past, and I missed it. Needless to say I jumped at the chance. I also started writing for the paper. I’m not the best writer in the group for sure, but I sure love doing it.
5. Are you an out of towner? How does this impact your fandom?
I’m not. However, I was stationed out in Vegas for a while. Somehow I became more a of fan of the Blues while I was there. Something about the you don’t know what you have until it’s gone sorta thing. Although, Twitter was a great place to meet you guys and other Blues fans. It still is really.
6. Do you have any hobbies other than hockey?
Netflix, Cardinals Baseball, Cowboys football, cursing, drinking enjoying life and having fun. Most recently started watching Friends. Always watching some Star Trek episode. (DS9 was the best one. Don't even argue because you know it's true) I have a dog named Samuel L. Blackson. I have birth certificates.
7. Favorite beer/beverage?
Beer is a cold one in my hand that I just cracked open with the boys. (Ok, what does that even mean?) But seriously, Beer me.
8. How many more years do you think it'll be before the Blues win the Stanley Cup?
Next year. Or the year after. Or the year after that. Or...you get the point. Although, with Army going out and actually doing something this offseason...
9. Most important lesson learned as a Blues fan?
You learn to deal with disappointment. It’s the hope that kills you. And always. Fuck Mike Keenan.
