Last night was not the best night for the Blues. They allowed 23 shots on goal in the first period while taking three silly penalties - two for interference, one for delay of game. They came back after falling down 2-0 at the end of the first, but the reason that they had a chance to win was on Jake Allen’s shoulders. The reason they wound up down 2-0 at the end of the first was also on Jake Allen’s shoulders - literally.
The defense was so spectacularly bad on all levels last night that the second goal of the game was allowed with Colton Parayko and Ivan Barbashev on top of Jake Allen after a complete defensive breakdown on the penalty kill. Chad Jonson gets to deal with this tonight as he makes his season debut against the Anaheim Ducks.
Luckily (or not) for the Blues, the Ducks had their own meltdown against the Stars last night, seeing a 3-0 lead evaporate and turn int a 5-3 loss. They’re either going to be tired today, or they’re going to be angry. The Blues? It’s been so long since fans have seen them angry about a sloppy loss that we can probably predict what will happen tonight.
Nearly every game has seen a different hero: Tarasenko against the Blackhawks the first time out, Perron against the Flames, Schenn last night against the Hawks. Only one of those games has resulted in a W. Maybe tonight will be number two.
