Alexander Steen scored his sixth goal of the season at 19:29 of the first period to give the Blues a 2-0 lead, but he won’t be finishing tonight’s game. After finishing a solid check on Nathan MacKinnon, Steen’s face became the target of Erik Johnson’s elbow:
Johnson was given five and a game misconduct, and will probably be getting a phone call regarding that hit. Some hits to the head are unclear and debatable; this one is not.
Steen recently returned to the Blues’ lineup on November 28th after missing two weeks with an upper-body injury that was probably a concussion. He did not return to tonight’s game. Johnson was suspended last December 17th for two games for boarding Tampa Bay’s Vladislav Namestnikov.
