I love the Winter Olympics. I love data viz. So here you go, a data viz of medals earned during the 2018 Winter Olympics. A couple of features about this data viz:

  • Medal counts are not good enough. Golds are better than silver. So while the length of the bars show the total number of medals earned by each country, the height of each bar is based on a weighted medal count where golds equal three points, silver equals two, bronze equals one.
  • If you click on a bar for a country, the tool tip will appear that has additional charts that show you the distribution of medals earned and the events in which the medals were earned.
