For all of the problems that the Blues have had (like last night’s inability to hold a lead), Tage Thompson hasn’t been emblematic of them. He’s been a scratch in four of the last five games, and hasn’t gotten massive amounts of time when he has played, but he hasn’t played badly. He has had, as Mike Yeo stressed, areas in which he could improve as part of the rookie learning process.
Apparently it’s back to school time for Thompson. The Blues have re-assigned the forward to the San Antonio Rampage. In 24 games played in St. Louis, he has three goals and three assists. In 26 games played with the Rampage, Thompson has 8 goals and 10 assists.
Yeo has mentioned that Thompson is currently banged up, which partially explains the healthy scratch status. His return to the Rampage means that the Blues coaching staff knows that he also has some stuff to work on and that the Blues don’t have the time to be his tutorial. The playoff push is on, and the Blues obviously have a lot to work on as a whole. It’s uncertain how much individual attention Thompson will get with the NHL club right now.
