With it being known that Carter Hutton was heading to the Buffalo Sabres, one of the questions heading into today was regarding who the Blues’ back-up goalie was going to be. Would they be bringing up Jordan Binnington? Is it time for Ville Husso to make an appearance, or will he need a bit more seasoning?
And, most importantly, who can the Blues use who won’t be too much of a threat to Jake Allen’s psyche?
In what will be probably today’s last free agent signing for the Blues, the answer to that question’s now clear. It’s former Sabres goaltender Chad Johnson! It’s a one year, $1.75 million contract, according to the Blues. Last season Johnson put up a 10-16-3 record along with a 3.55 goals-against average and a .891 save-percentage. I know that sounds awful, but he was playing for the Buffalo Sabres. The rest of his stats are much more palatable:
