The Traverse City Tournament didn’t get off to the best start for the Blues. Defenseman Jake Walman was the only goal scorer from today’s 4-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. The former 2014 draft pick (3rd round, 82nd overall) scored in the third period, getting the assist from top prospect Robert Thomas. Neither Thomas nor Jordan Kyrou want to play in the tournament again - no offense to the Red Wings and the nice folks in Traverse City.

“It’s such a high-intensity tournament,” Thomas said. “And going from summer skates to that tournament takes a little bit to get used to it. And then it just keeps getting more intense — more intense as you go into main camp and then preseason. So I think it’s a good starting point to get the ball rolling.”

Thomas and Walman got the ball rolling today; the rest of the prospect squad may want to step it up.

Luckily for the Blues, there are still a few games left in the tournament:

Sept. 8 vs. Columbus Blue Jackets - 2:30 p.m. CT

Sept. 10 vs. Chicago Blackhawks - 6:30 p.m. CT

Sept. 11 vs. TBD

All games are streaming on the FoxSpotsGo app and the Blues’ website - and surprisingly enough, are viewable outside of the Blues’ broadcast area (or at least the Carolina game was here in Atlanta).
