Game Highlights:

First Period -

With 13:12 left in the opening period, Brayden Schenn scored his fifth goal in five games. He had some good fortune as the puck bounced off of the Islanders defender and past Isles starter Thomas Greiss. 1-0 Blues.

That’s all the scoring there was in the first. Shots were 9-7 in favor of the Islanders.

Second Period -

Jordan Binnington kept the game 1-0 in the second period on a Derrick Brassard one time shot.

Game remained 1-0 after two. Shots in the period were 10-4 in favor of the Blues.

Third Period -

At first, it was thought that Vladimir Tarasenko scored his first goal of the year in the first. It was changed to Schenn. However, there was no doubt that he scored his first of the year in the third. With the Blues on the power play, Tarasenko fired that deadly wrist shot of his and beat Greiss for the 2-0 lead. The Blues power play ended up 1 for 2 on the day, and didn’t give up a short handed goal.

With around five and a half minutes left the Islanders got on the board. Jaden Schwartz tried to no look backhand the puck out of the zone. Little did he know, that the puck found an Islander stick. That was the stick of Michael Dal Colle. Dal Colle then passed the puck over to Brock Nelson. Nelson fired the puck under Binnington’s glove and cut the Blues lead to just one. Binnington looked as if he wanted that one back...

With the goalie pulled and the Blues on their way to a 2-1 win, Matt Barzal crushed that hope as he scored the game tying goal with 26.5 seconds left. Not great, Bob.

The Blues only recorded 6 shots on goal in the final period of regulation. The Islanders meanwhile had 18. Way to sit back on that lead boys.

Overtime -

On the first shot of overtime, a guy named Toews (Devon not Jonathan, and no relation) won the game for the Islanders. Pietrangelo couldn’t do much as he went down and took a shot off his leg. David Perron went off for a line change. Puck went in net. Blues lose out on both points and only get the participation point.

Islanders would outshoot the Blues 32-23 in this one. Blues return home on Thursday to take on the Canucks.

Goals -

STL: Schenn (5), Tarasenko (1)

NYI: Nelson (3), Barzal (1), Toews (2)

Huh.

Isles post game comments, and no, I can’t either. Wait, yeah I can.

Sigh.
