Ducks at Blues Preview: Do it in 60

The Blues have become regular recipients of free hockey.

Anaheim Ducks v St Louis Blues

Last night was yet another point in an impressive points streak, but it was also the Blues second overtime loss in a row. Both losses came after the team let a lead slip away, but while the loss against Arizona was in the shootout, last night was a loss in overtime. And it was a spectacular example of how situational awareness can be important. Jaden Schwartz hopped the boards before his time, the Blues had four skaters on the ice, and then the Blue Jackets did. The worst part was that it happened right in the middle of a Blues power play.

It is concerning when the Blues let points slip away like that. It’s the fifth time that they’ve lost in extra time after leading going into the third period. That’s five points that they should have in the standings. The constant need for OT is concerning, but without Tarasenko, it’s probably going to happen more often than people want. But you can’t waste a 36 save performance from Jake Allen like that.

Hopefully the Blues won’t allow that many SOG tonight against the Ducks, who the beat three out of four times last year. Anaheim is better this season - they’re 9-9-2 and just three points out of the wild card race. The Blues haven’t lost to a Western Conference team in regulation yet this season; hopefully tonight will be a bounce-back performance with Jordan Binnington in net.
