O’Reilly, Binnington, and Pietrangelo selected to 2020 All-Star Team.

Not bad representation for the home town team.

The 2020 All-Star Game in just under a month away, and the hometown team will be very well represented. Ryan O’Reilly, Jordan Binnington, and Alex Pietrangelo all have been selected to lace up the skates and show off their stuff.

This will be O’Reilly’s second turn as an All-Star while representing the Blues; he was the team’s lone rep last year in San Jose. This is also Pietrangelo’s second go round as the Blues’ representative; he last skated in 2018’s All-Star celebrations in Tampa Bay. Obviously, this will be Jordan Binnington’s first All-Star Game, but probably won’t be his last. Binnington is the first Blues goaltender to represent the team in an All-Star game since Brian Elliott did in 2015.

Alex Pietrangelo, who is putting up a very strong case for a contract renewal, has ten goals and 21 assists so far this season, first in the league amongst defensemen in both categories.

It’s a testament to how solidly the Blues have been playing so far this season that someone can look at the three players selected and question where others are - especially David Perron and Brayden Schenn, who are having outstanding seasons, or Jaden Schwartz, who has quietly bounced back from a career-worst season. Perron currently leads the team with 40 points (16 G, 24 A) and Schenn is right behind him at 34 points (17 goals, 17 assists). Schenn and Perron are one and two respectively in goals this season, with Schwartz’s 13 putting him at third and Pietrangelo at fourth.

Regardless of who is out there from the Blues, the team had a bevy of worthy representatives to choose from, and it looks like 2020 is shaping up to be another year to remember for the Blues.
