Blues at Panthers Preview/GameDay Thread

Don’t look now, but the Blues are inching upwards.

The Blues demonstrated a lot of tenacity in Columbus on Saturday night. Potentially deflating goals by the Blue Jackets were quickly answered by the Blues. Vladimir Tarasenko put up a goal and two assists. Jordan Binnington has at least a futon and a TV in Jake Allen’s head with his 6-1-0 record and 1.86 GAA. Oskar Sundqvist has scored in three straight games (and is fourth on the team with 11 goals - great for Sunny, probably not great for the Blues).

And, on top of all of that, the Blues have out-shot their opponents in their last 16 games. That’s pretty ok. Also ok is the fact that while the Blues might now be three back from Vancouver for the last wild card spot, they have three games in hand on the Canucks and two games in hand on the first wild card team, the Minnesota Wild.

Could it be? Could they actually be clawing their way back up into a playoff spot?

Considering the fact that the Blues are 6-3-1 in their last ten games and have an 11-9-3 road record, tonight might go a little further towards closing that gap. The Panthers have been playing better - they’re 4-0-1 in their last five - but the Blues tend to play the Panthers well.

And hey, Jay Bouwmeester’s notching over 20 minutes of ice time again and is playing much better; Alex Pietrangelo, as well, isn’t in his early-season form (failed clear attempt that led to a goal Saturday night notwithstanding). The Blues are getting our hopes up, aren’t they? Oh well. At least it’s finally fun to watch again.

This is your GameDay Thread/Preview, combined because I have a birthday dinner for a friend tonight. Comment like you wish the warm weather’d stick to Florida.

Let’s do this. Let’s Go Blues.
