Oh, what a difference a year makes. This time last year, losing to the Hawks helped keep the Blues out of the playoffs. Tonight? A Blackhawks win against the Arizona Coyotes tonight and the Blues are in.
Luckily, the Blues aren’t completely dependent on the Blackhawks. If the Golden Knights take care of the Colorado Avalanche in regulation tomorrow night, the Blues are in as well.
According to SportsClubStats, the Blues have a 99.9999% chance of cracking the postseason, so there’s not much to worry about. They’d practically need to lose out the rest of the season to stand a risk of missing, and that would be surprising to witness.
If the playoffs were to start today, the Blues would be playing the Nashville Predators, with the Preds having home ice advantage. The Blues are two points behind Nashville having played one fewer game - so depending on how both teams close out, home ice advantage could be flipped. Right now, the Blues may have a better chance at second in the Central instead of third.
Let’s not put the cart before the horse, though. For right now, tonight? Let’s go... sigh... Hawks.
