Blues clinch playoff spot with Avalanche win

They got by with a little help from their friends.

Everyone who thought the Blues would clinch a playoff spot last night were with the Avalanche’s 3-2 shootout win over the Arizona Coyotes. Yes, it would’ve been more rewarding to get in via a win against the New York Rangers, who erased a 2-0 Blues lead with four unanswered goals. And yes, the Blues could’ve used those two points against a non-playoff team, because somehow the Dallas Stars are only two points behind the Blues and a first round matchup with the Nashville Predators.

But that’s ok. The Blues play again tonight (on FSMW, which presumably will be able to air the game) against the New Jersey Devils.

So for the first time since the 1997 Ottawa Senators, a team has gone from worst to playoffs.

Apparently looking at the the small number of teams who overcome adversity and statistics (34 points in 37 games is not good) and determining that maybe next year will be the year is meltdown mode, which is something I’m known for.

God help me, I’m going to start predicting the Blues out in 6 against the Preds in the first round. They’ll win the Stanley Cup.
