Blues Vs. Ducks Recap

Yes, that Brayden Schenn made his return to the lineup tonight for the Blues. Michael Del Zotto also made his debut tonight.

Game Highlights:

First Period -

The Ducks got on the board first tonight. Troy Terry wins a battle for the puck behind the net. Nick Ritchie collected the loose puck with no one around him. Ritchie jammed the puck past Binnington giving the Ducks the 1-0 lead just six minutes into the game.

Moments later the Blues tied the game at one. The returning Brayden Schenn deflected a Vladimir Tarasenko wrist shot past Ducks’ starter John Gibson. One power play, one goal. Seemed pretty efficient. Welcome back power play?

While still in the first, Ryan O’Reilly scored the Blues second power play goal of the night. Tyler Bozak kept the puck in the zone. Bozak got the puck over to O’Reilly. O’Reilly fired a wrist shot on net beating Gibson and giving the Blues a one goal lead at 2-1.

After one the Blues led the Ducks 2-1. Shots on goal were 13-6 in favor of the Blues. Again, not that anyone would know because NBCSN can’t give us a shot counter.

Second Period -

Robert Thomas, not only a singer for a great band, but a goal scorer in the NHL. Thomas gave the Blues their third power play goal of the night. The goal also gave Jaden Schwartz his 300th NHL point. Blues now lead 3-1.

The Ducks pull with-in a goal thanks to a power play goal of their own. Rickard Rakell one timed a cross ice pass from a guy with two first names Troy Terry. Binnington just couldn’t slide over fast enough to save the rocket of a shot from Rakell. 3-2 Blues.

Jaycob Megna scored his first NHL goal with two minutes to go in the period. He was able to tie the game on a shot I’m not sure Binnington was able to see. There was after all, a small village in front of him. All jokes aside, the Blues blow a two goal lead to the Ducks. Not ideal given the Ducks are being coached by their GM and have been a dumpster fire save the first month or so of the season.

After two, this game is tied at 3. Shots in the period were 13-10 in favor of the Ducks. The Ducks had more shots in the first two periods (19) of this game than they did in the second meeting between these two teams. (13)

Third period -

Jordan Binnington had been almost flawless up to this point in his great run. That was until tonight. Megna fired a shot on net. Binnington lost control of the puck. (He had a little help from Troy Terry slashing his arm, but that wasn’t the complete reason for the gaff) Adam Henrique was there to collect the loose puck. Jaden Schwartz, who isn’t a goaltender, was unable to stop the Henrique shot. Ducks took the lead 4-3. Oh boy.

With a minute and four seconds left in the game and Binnington having a nice sip of tea on the bench or whatever, Robert Thomas tied the game at 4. Colton Parayko fired a puck from the blue line. The puck took a favorable bounce that Thomas was able to collect and fire into the net.

So it looks like the Blues would salvage a point out of...OH MY GOD ALEX PIETRANGELO SCORED 12 SECONDS LATER AND THE BLUES ARE GONNA WIN THIS GAME 5-4. *Ahem* Pietrangelo fired a puck that deflected off of Henrique’s skate and into the back of the net.

So the Blues blew a 3-1 lead, go down 4-3, and somehow still manage to win the game 5-4 in regulation. The Blues power play/man advantage was responsible for 4 of the 5 goals. The only 5 on 5 goal was the Pietrangelo goal. (Yikes.) The Blues are at it again *checks time* technically tonight against the Kings. Final shot totals were 33-27 in favor of the Blues. Ryan O’Reilly now has a career high in points (65) and we still have 17 games to go.
