Game Highlights:
First Period-
The Blues found themselves up a goal early in this one. However it was called back. Shoutout to Robert Bortuzzo making a great entry and play to set up said non goal. The goal was ruled offside (as it should have been) and everyone moved on. Guess that was the April Fools joke for the night.
The Blues scored again later in the period and this one wasn’t gonna get called back. Oskar Sundqvist sets up Jaden Schwartz right in front of the net. All Schwartz had to do was tap the puck into the net. And that’s exactly what he did, beating Avs netminder Phillip Grubauer. 1-0 good guys.
The Avs didn’t record a shot on goal for over half the period. The Blues could have easily been up by three or four. But unfortunately, Grubauer was up to the task. Shots at the end of one were 15-2 in favor of the Blues.
Second Period-
The second period Blues were back. Luckily for the Blues, Binnington woke up from his first period slumber and helped to preserve the 1-0 lead. Shot totals were 10-3 Avs in the period.
Third Period -
Vladimir Tarasenko scored his thirty first goal of the year just seconds into the period. Ryan O’Reilly gets the initial shot on net. It was Tarasenko who was there to collect the rebound. Blues up two nothing and have a great start to the period.
The Avs finally get on the board with thirteen and a half minutes to go in the period. Patrik Nemeth fired a shot that was deflected past Binnington. Gaberiel Landeskog deflected the puck just in time to cut the Blues lead to one. Uh-oh.
With less than a minute left the Avs tie the game at 2. For some reason the Blues thought it would be a great idea to take forever on a line change. That led to Alex Kerfoot getting in and tipping yet another shot on goal that Binnington couldn’t stop. Yikes. So the Blues end up with the pitty point.
Overtime/Shootout -
No one scored in the OT so we went to the evening gown and skills portion of the night. Ok minus the evening gowns but wouldn’t that be funny? Anyway here’s Ryan O’Reilly winning the game for the Blues because of course he did.
The Blues go on to win this one three to two and move into second place in the Central. Sorry I had to put that in writing because I still don’t believe this run. The Blues play up in Chicago for the final time on Wednesday.
Shots for the game were 27-26 in favor of the Blues.
Goals -
STL: Schwartz (11) from Sundqvist (16) and Perron (22) and Tarasenko (31) from O’Reilly (47) and Schenn (35)
COL: Landeskog (34) from Nemeth (9) and Soderberg (26) and Kerfoot (13) from Landeskog and MacKinnon
