Stanley Cup Final: Chris Rooney and Gord Dwyer will ref game seven

New, comments

They’re apparently the last competent ones standing.

This post-season turned into quite the officiating Hunger Games, didn’t it? Round after round, missed calls caused officials to sit. The officials game seven between the Sharks and Golden Knights didn’t call another game. The whole crew that missed the hand pass that ended game three of the Blues and Sharks series? Gone.

Now the duo that called game five of the Stanley Cup Final, Kelly Sutherland and Steve Kozari - have been benched. The referees for tomorrow night’s game seven will be Chris Rooney and Gord Dwyer, according to Scouting the Refs. The pair previously called games six, four, and two. They’ve called their games fairly so far, in game six practically swallowed their whistles on shenanigans for both teams.

Before anyone busts out the tinfoil hats over Boston native Chris Rooney calling game seven in his hometown, he’s one of the most even officials in the game. The Blues are 6-1 in the postseason with him reffing; the Bruins are 3-3.

The last refs standing will officiate the last hockey game of the season, meaning that more than ever, the Blues control their own fate.
