For some of us, hearing the news in January that the Blues were switching from KMOX to ESPN 101.1 was sad. It reminded me of when the Cardinals briefly switched over to KTRS a few years ago - it didn’t feel right. For out of town fans, KMOX is a beacon. I could easily listen to Blues broadcasts on my car radio, and when coming home from Thrashers games I could hear Chase and Kerbs more clearly than Dan Kamal doing post-game on 680 the Fan in Atlanta.
Folks from St. Louis are emotionally attached to that station identification.
While those in the city will be able to listen on FM radio, and while things won’t be changing much for out of towners who stream, the end of the Blues’ tenure with KMOX is the end of an era. Before the new games get broadcast without Cardinal interruption, Chris Kerber and Joey Vitale had one more game to go. I can’t think of a better way for a long relationship to end:

It’s Kerbs’ show, but Joey Vitale in the background really adds a special something.
