Game Highlights:
First Period -
A minute and a half into the game the Blues were already down 1-0. Filip Chytil moved the puck up the ice. He ended the play with a shot that beat Jordan Binnington on his glove side. Chytil scored his 11th of the year, and Panarin tallied his only point of the night on a secondary assist.
The Blues tied the game on an unlikely breakaway from...Robert Bortuzzo? Yes, you read that right, Bortuzzo scored his first goal of the year on a breakaway chance. Bortuzzo had just got out of the box after taking a double minor for hi-sticking. Ivan Barbashev hit Bortuzzo with a perfectly placed pass and Bortuzzo was off. Bortuzzo skated in on Rangers starter Henrik Lundqvist and scored. The aforementioned Barbashev (12) and Pietrangelo (24) assisted on the play.
The Blues scored again just before the end of the period. This time it was Vince Dunn doing the scoring. Zach Sanford found Dunn open with a cross ice feed. Dunn fired a shot on net that bounced off of Lundqvist and in. Dunn scored his 7th of the year with Sanford (8) on the assist. Guess Sanford was reading the internet about his play as of late.
The Blues were up 2-1 at the end of one. Shots were 9-8 in favor of St. Louis.
Second Period -
Not only was David Perron named to the all-star game last night he also scored his 20th goal of the year on the power play chance. The Blues passed around the puck a few times. Ultimately, Brayden Schenn found Perron open. Perron scored on a slap shot from the circle putting the Blues up 3-1. Schenn (20) and Pietrangelo (25) had the assists.
Brett Howden ruined the fun just a bit when he put the Rangers back to within one. Chytil found himself on the scoresheet again. Only this time it was just an assist on the Howden goal. Chytil got the puck from behind the net and fed the puck in front. Howden then was able to just tap the puck past Binnington. Howden scored his 6th goal of the year on the play.
Zach Sanford also found himself on the scoresheet for the second time on the night with a goal of his own. Sanford took control of the puck and played it to Ivan Barbashev. Barbashev and Sanford passed it back and forth with Sanford taking the one time shot on net and beating Lundqvist. Just like that it was back to 4-2 Blues.
The Blues weren’t done scoring either. Jaden Schwartz tallied the fifth and final Blues goal on the night. Brayden Schenn passed the puck just in front of Schwartz. Schwartz was able to just tip the puck past Lundqvist giving Schwartz his 15th of the year. Schenn (21) and Sundqvist (9) assisted on the goal.
Third Period -
No Scoring
The Blues take this one 5-2 and held the Rangers to just 23 shots on goal. Up next for the Blues is the Ducks tomorrow night.
