Devils at Blues GameDay Thread: Devil of a time

The Blues need to get through these February doldrums

NHL: New Jersey Devils at St. Louis Blues Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

So Jack Hughes is a New Jersey Devil, a fact that slipped my mind until early today. That’s not a testament to how Hughes is playing by any means, though he has been underperforming - it’s more or less a statement regarding who he’s playing for.

Hughes, the first overall pick in last year’s draft, will be shifted to a line with Nico Hischier and Kyle Palmieri to give him some offensive chances and to make the defensive responsibilites a bit lighter on him As coach Alain Nasreddine put it, “We’re trying to break some bad habits that young players have.”

Another fun quote from the Devils’ pre-game report is this one from Hischier, when asked about playing with Hughes:

“It doesn’t really change anything. I always say it doesn’t matter who you play with. You’ve got go to out there, play your game and help the team win,” Hischier began.

”Jack has lots of speed and skill. I’ll try to do my best to dish pucks out there and help him create offense.

”It’s not easy coming in as an 18 year old. For me, it was different because of where we were at. That year we were feeling good and I had to learn in the second year that it’s not always easy.”

This is your GameDay Thread. Comment like you think the Blues should be able to take care of New Jersey - and follow through with it.
