The Blues announced yesterday that forward Brandon Saad was off of the league’s Covid-19 protocol list and could return to play. Ryan O’Reilly, unfortunately, appears to be on the list through at least this Saturday. There has been speculation that, with two players on the list who developed symptoms, more players could be joining the captain.
Today, we got some confirmation on that speculation. The Blues have announced that backup goaltender Ville Husso has been placed on the list. Husso has played in one game so far this season, a 34 save shutout of the Los Angeles Kings on October 25th. Last season, he started 15 games for the Blues (making 17 total appearances), going 9-6-0-1 with a 2.21 GAA and a .893 save percentage.
The upcoming stretch for the Blues isn’t anything out of the ordinary. Over the next ten days, the Blues will have four games on the road. The hiccup could be the back to back games against the Kings and the San Jose Sharks on November 4th and 5th. Binnington will have to suit up for back to back nights for the first time since October 26th and 27th of 2019.
As a NHL starter, Binnington should be fine going in two nights in a row. No one likes putting their starter in that position, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.
UPDATE: Coach Craig Berube has said that the team will be calling Joel Hofer up from the Springfield Thunderbirds. Hofer has led the Thunderbirds through a strong month of October. In four games played, he has a 1.74 GAA and a .936 save percentage.
