Game Highlights:
First Period - In order for the Blues to have any sort of chance in this series, they’re going to have to stay out of the box. Case in point, Cale Makar scored on the power play to make it 1-0 Avs late in the first.
The Blues had the first five shots on goal. They kept the Avs off of the shot board for 5 or 6 minutes into the period. After that it was all Avs as they went on to outshoot the Blues 18-5.
Second Period - Thankfully for the Blues, playoff Jordan Binnington was here to save their asses. Midway through the period, Binnington made (argurably) the save of the playoffs so far. The Blues turned the puck over giving the Avs a two on one. Binnington went all Scorpion King and kept the puck out of the net.
Not only was Binnington on his game, the Blues were able to tie the game up at one. Jordan Kyrou finally beat Philipp Grubauer with a one time shot. The Bally Sports logo was trying to get an assist on the play, but no dice. That went to Ivan Barbashev.
So the Blues finally look like they have some momentum late in the second. Just maybe if they win the third, they win the game.
Third Period - SPOILER. They did NOT win the third. In fact the Avs scored three goals in the third to put the Blues out for good. The first of the three was just thirty seconds into the period, and it was really an uphill battle from there. (Other than the three minutes or so the game was tied, it was an uphill battle for the most part anyway) Nathan MacKinnon was left wide open. That’s it. That’s all I got.
Exactly eight minutes later, Gabriel Landeskog got a tip on a shot and put the Avs up by two.
Apparently the empty net took Nathan MacKinnon out for a nice steak dinner and then never called him again. That net has a family dammit!
The Avs outshot the Blues tonight 50-23. Not great Bob. Game two is Wednesday Night at 9:30. Who needs sleep right? *Cries*

Hear from Ryan O’Reilly, Tyler Bozak and Craig Berube after a loss to Colorado in Game 1. #stlblues pic.twitter.com/Q5fQoUIug3
If it was a slapshot on the power play Hoffman puts this in the back of the net.
Huge play in this game — other than Jordan Binnington no other #stlblues players played a desperate game — #Avs did https://t.co/GUMxTia0fN
