Blues Vs. Golden Knights Recap: Playoffs? Playoffs.

Despite the 4-3 overtime loss, the Blues are headed to the playoffs.

NHL: St. Louis Blues at Vegas Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Game Highlights:

First Period - Reilly Smith scored while right in the crease giving Vegas the early lead. The puck bounced off of Smith’s skate and across the goaline. Smith might have hit the puck with his stick. Even if he didn’t there wasn’t a kicking motion. Goal counts, 1-0.

With less than two minutes to go, Ryan O’Reilly tied the game up at one. With the Blues on the penalty kill, Tyler Bozak moved the puck aggressively up the ice. Bozak won the race to the puck behind the net. Bozak found an open O’Reilly who then buried a shot for his 24th goal of the year.

Shots in the first were 10-9 in favor of the Knights.

Second Period - Vegas Golden Knight legend David Perron scored to give the Blues their first lead of the night. Zach Sanford fired a cross ice pass to Perron. The puck was tipped on the way over to Perron. Perron was still able to get the puck on net. Robin Lehner coulda woulda shoulda maybe stopped it? He didn’t and Perron gets goal number 16 on the season.

Less than two minutes later, Jaden Schwartz added to the Blues lead. Lehner failed to clear the puck out from behind his net. Brayden Schenn collected the puck and got the puck to Bozak. Bozak got the puck back down to Schwartz. Schwartz fired the puck from a weird angle and still was able to score. This goal was definitely one that Lehner wanted back.

With just seconds to go in the period Alec Martinez scored to pull the Knights to within one.

Shots in the period were 12-8 once again in favor of the Knights.

Third Period - Nicolas Roy tied the game at three.

The Blues blew another lead, but got the game to overtime for the one important point.

Overtime - The Knights won the game in overtime to go 9-0 on the year in the OT period. Jonathan Marchessault scored with just 17.7 seconds to go.

The Blues and Knights play once again tomorrow night.

Tweets of the Game:

Klim Kostin was a big part of his KHL team’s Championship...will he be part of another one?

Perfectly ok with sitting everyone they can at this point. They aren’t catching anyone above them. With the way the injury bug has been flying around the locker room....

The Blues are in. Crazier shit has happened.

And nine out of the last ten years. Could’ve been 10 for 10 if they had won game 82...
