Seattle Kraken select Vince Dunn in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft

The Seattle Kraken have been making a splash during the expansion draft - even though most of the picks were spoiled earlier on Twitter.

The Kraken and GM Ron Francis have selected Vince Dunn from the Blues, setting him up to be one of the top pieces of the Kraken’s defense alongside Mike Giordano. Dunn will have to act as a mentor to young defensemen such as the Kraken’s pick from Boston, Jeremy Lauzon; their pick from Buffalo, Will Borgen, and their pick from Detroit, Dennis Cholowski.

Seattle began the draft announcements with multiple defensemen selected and their new goaltender, former Panther Chris Driedger.

Losing Dunn in the expansion draft means that the Blues lose one of their best trade assets. Dunn may have acted as a pot-sweetner for a Tarasenko trade, or could’ve on his own netted a few draft picks while clearing a little cap space.

Dunn has had his struggles ecently and could benefit from a change of scenery. He’s been a valuable top-four defenseman and a Stanley Cup champion with the Blues and is a smart, safe selection for the Kraken to make. He’s a pending RFA more than likely seeking a raise from his current contract’s modest $1,875,000 hit.

Now it’s time for Doug Armstrong to find takers for Vladimir Tarasenko.
