Welcome to the 2021 NHL free agency date - later than usual, but still just as dramatic as always. Yesterday saw a flurry (or Fleury) of trades around the league, especially with the Chicago Blackhawks. First they acquired goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury from the Vegas Golden Knights, then they acquired Tyler Johnson from the Tampa Bay Lightning for the zombie contract of Brent Seabrook.

The big trade that we’ve all been waiting for - that of Vladimir Tarasenko - has not happened yet. His contract being on the books makes it difficult for Doug Armstrong to make a giant splash until it’s moved. Tyler Bozak, Mike Hoffman, and Jaden Schwartz will all test the open market today, with Schwartz more than likely signing with the Seattle Kraken. On top of continuing talks with the Blues’ own unrestricted free agents, Armstrong also has to work out contracts for five restricted free agents: ordan Kyrou, Zach Sanford, Robert Thomas, Dakota Joshua, and Ivan Barbashev.

Today isn’t the only day in free agency, but it’s usually the most busy. Stay tuned for updates from the Blues’ front - but until Tarasenko’s situation is resolved, temper your expectations.
