Pat Maroon has won the Stanley Cup three times. In a row. Thrice.
Maroon was nearly waived by the Blues midway through the 2018-2019 campaign; by the end of the post-season he had helped bring the Stanley Cup home. He signed with Tampa Bay that off-season, and quickly became a beloved part of a team that had “deep playoff run” written all over them. When the Lightning won after a pandemic shortened season and a playoff bubble, it didn’t shock anyone - but realizing Maroon was a back to back champion did.
Those poor, confused people now have to cope with the fact that Big Rig is a three-time Stanley Cup Champion.
Many Blues fans chose Maroon as their former Blue to root for this Final, and they’ve been rewarded again. Maroon’s name will be on the Cup for the third year in a row, the fourth player to complete this task on two different teams.
Another solid run to the Stanley Cup next season isn’t out of the question. After all, Maroon has one more year on his deal with the Lightning, and that team isn’t dropping out of contention for years.
