Quick Thoughts on Deadline Day

Not the Blues. Not by the numbers. And..uh..Fuck Detroit!

My first SLGT F-bomb!  I feel like family....

Miscellaneous thoughts as the trades rolled in:

Phoenix / Washington

Martin Erat and John Mitchell for Chris Brown,  Rostislav Klesla, and 4th  Round Pick (2015)

Erat wanted a trade.  Washington took a bag of pucks for him.

Chicago / Phoenix

David Rundblad for Mathieu Brisebois and 2nd  Round Pick (2014)

If you know which player went to which team, congratulations.

Florida / Vancouver

Roberto Luongo and Steven Anthony for Jacob Markstrom and Shawn Matthias.

One of the best goalies in the NHL for a fading prospect and a 3rd line forward.  The way they structured the sharing of the cap recapture penalty takes this from awful to mind-blowing awful.

Philadelphia / NY Islanders

Andrew MacDonald for 3rd Round Pick (2014), 2nd Round Pick (2015), and Matt Mangene

I thought Philly was trading away defensemen.

Anaheim / Dallas

Stephane Robidas for Conditional 4th Round Pick (2014)

Useful depth defensemam.

Edmonton / Anaheim

Viktor Fasth for  5th Round Pick (2014) and 3rd Round Pick (2015)

Fasth was 0.930 ES last season and 0.908 ES this season.  Ability is probably about average.  If he is more or less the same as Bryz, they basically turned a 3rd and a 5th into a 4th.  Nice!

Minnesota / Edmonton

Ilya Bryzgalov for 4th Round Pick (2014)

At least the Blues won't have to face Halak in the first round.  Bryz may be nuts but he is a starter-level goalie (0.923 career ES).

Washington / Anaheim

Dustin Penner for 4th Round Pick (2014)

Erat ->  Penner.  Washington -> better.

Montreal / Florida

Mike Weaver for 5th Round Pick (2015)

I like Mike Weaver.  A lot.  Probably the best 5/6 defenseman in the league while he was with the Blues.  Nice addition to the Canadiens.

Florida / Chicago

Brandon Pirri for 3rd Round Pick (2014) and 5th Round Pick (2016)

Peter Regin is apparently better than Pirri.  At the same time, Pirri is better than Riley Nash.  Does JR not have Stan's phone number?

Rangers / Tampa Bay

Martin St. Louis and conditional pick for Ryan Callahan, 1st Round pick (2015), and 2nd Round pick (2014)

A lot to give up for a guy who is 38.  Potentially a good deal for both teams.

Ottawa / Edmonton

Ales Hemsky for 3rd Round pick (2015) and 5th Round pick (2014)

Who will score more goals in the playoffs?  Hemsky or Brendan Morrow?  The over/under for both is at 1.

Montreal / Nashville

Devan Dubnyk for Future Considerations

i.e., less than the cost of picking him up on waivers.

Los Angeles / Columbus

Marian Gaborik for Matt Frattin, 2nd Round Pick, Conditional 3rd Round Pick

And Penner - > Gaborik, LA -> better.  Gaborik brought more than Vanek plus Moulson, apparently.

Florida / Pittsburgh

Marcel Goc for 5th Round Pick (2014) and 3rd Round Pick (2015)

I guess we will see if Crosby can play with literally anybody.

Carolina / New Jersey

Tuomo Ruutu for F Andrei Loktionov and Conditional 3rd Round Pick (2017)

Carolina gets smaller, New Jersey gets more fragile

Florida / Dallas

Tim Thomas for Dan Ellis

Tim Thomas really hates Roberto Luongo.

Edmonton / Columbus

Nick Schultz for 5th Round Pick

Nick Schultz plus a 3rd Round pick equals Marcel Goc.

Philadelphia / Boston

D Andrej Meszaros  for a 3 rd Round pick

Good depth pick up.  For Philly, the net deal is Meszaros, a second, and a prospect for MacDoanld.  Uh...

Rangers / Vancouver

D Raphael Diaz for 5th Round Pick

They could have wound up with Nick Schultz, so that's a plus.

Colorado / Calgary

Reto Berra for a pick

Let the Karri Ramo era begin!  I thought they had signed Berra to an extension.  Guess not.

Nashville / Detroit

David Legwand for F Patrick Eaves, F Calle Jarnkrok, and 3rd-Round Pick

This deal pisses me off.  Jarnkrok is rated 7.5 C by Hockey Futures.
http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/calle_jarnkrok/

Actually, the more I read about this kid Jarnkrok, the more the deal pisses me off.  He sounds like the Swedish Anton Babchuk.  Basically a spare forward, a prospect headed back to Europe, and a 3rd.

Montreal / Islanders

F Thomas Vanek and Conditional 5th Round Pick (2014)  for F Sebastien Collberg and Conditional 2nd Round Pick (2014)

This irks me some.  Collberg is a 2nd round pick.  Rated 8.0 D by Hockey Futures
http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/sebastian_collberg/

Buffalo / Minnesota

F Matt Moulson and F Cody McCormick for F Torrey Mitchell and Draft Pick TBA
This deal also pisses me off.  Torrey Mitchell has 1 goal.  OK, so it is 2 2nd round picks.  Still..

Buffalo / Washington

G Jaroslav Halak and 3rd Round Pick (2015) for G Michal Neuvirth and D Rostislav Klesla

I think Washington got a lot better today.  Maybe Halak can steal a series for them this time.

Anaheim / Ottawa

F Andre Petersson  for D Alex Grant

(Fart noise)

Pittsburgh / Calgary

F Lee Stempniak  for 3rd Round Pick

Spoke too soon about Goc!  But honestly, Goc is worth Stempniak plus a 5th?
