Police have been notified of a robbery at the American Airlines Center.

Blues Lineup:

Forwards: Jaden Schwartz/Paul Stastny/Dmitrij Jaskin, Robby Fabbri/Jori Lehtera/Vladimir Tarasenko, Alexander Steen/Patrik Berglund/David Perron, Scottie Upshall/Kyle Brodziak/Ryan Reaves

Defensemen: Jay Bouwmeester/Colton Parayko, Joel Edmundson/Kevin Shattenkirk, Carl Gunnarsson/Brad Hunt

Goaltender: Jake Allen

Note: Alex Pietrangelo was out with an illness for tonight's game.

First Period:

After the Blues lost to the Oilers in OT last night, they were right back at it in Dallas. Allen was in net after a much needed night off. He looked ok enough early on. John Klingberg got a chance in front of Allen, but he kicks that away to keep it 0-0.

Tarasenko was nailed for a double minor when his stick caught a Dallas player in the face/mouth area. There was really nothing that Tarasenko could have done, but it's a double minor none the less. The Blues had just finished killing off the first half of that double minor when Patrick Eaves makes it 1-0. It looked like maybe Allen should have had that one.

The Blues did manage to score a goal of their own in the first period. With 8:45 left to go in the first, Schwartz ties the game at one on a rebound chance. Paul Stastny fires the puck in on Dallas starter Antti Niemi. Schwartz comes flying in and scores the game tying goal.

Second Period:

With the score still 2-1, the Blues made a bone head mistake for the 8TH time this year. Too many men on the ice. EIGHT TIMES. That seems a bit excessive. The Stars failed to capitalize however, thanks in part to Allen.

The Blues were even lucky enough to be rewarded with a powerplay. While on one hand the Blues were finally able to get some offensive zone pressure...

...on the other hand Jake Allen was doing snow angels at the other end of the ice on a shorthanded chance.

Late in the second, the Stars make 2-1 on a Jason Spezza rebound. Spezza seemed like he was in a recliner just hanging out in front. Don't clear him out or anything guys, it's cool really.

About a minute later Jay Bouwmeester feeds Patrik Berglund in front of the net to tie the game right back up at 2 a piece. I didn't give Fun Bobby enough credit on that pass when it happened. That was a helluva feed to Berglund. Berlund then had a helluva backhander under the bar for the goal. The Stars did challenge the goal however for interference. It was ruled a good goal. Perron was pushed into Niemi. There was really nothing Perron could do at that point to get out of the way.

Third Period:

Allen's best period of the night was the third period. The Stars had multiple chances and were not able to find the back of the net. Allen makes an arm save on Brett Ritchie after, guess who, Kevin Shattenkirk turns the puck over.

Late in the period, the Blues iced the puck with about 18 seconds left. (By the way, is it just me, or are they doing that A LOT lately?) After the Blues used their timeout, the Stars made their final push. They were inches away from winning this one in regulation.

Despite being outshot in all three periods (14-7, 14-9 and 9-5 respectively) the Blues earned the participation point and forced the overtime frame.

Overtime:

So raise your hand if you still hate the Perron signing...Mr. Perron, your response? Just scoring his first career overtime goal and helping the Blues steal one in Dallas. Did not see this one coming. More so because of how they played just 24 hours earlier.

Blues win 3-2. Unfortunately for the Blues it wasn't completely sunshine and rainbows but they pulled it off. Paul Stastny was hurt late in the game and did not return. As of right now he's day to day. Hopefully he's not out for an extended period. Blues travel to Tampa to take on the Lightning Thursday night.

From the Twitter Machine:

The Blues blew a lead last night; can they please manage to not do that again tonight?

I may have mentioned in last night's preview that the Blues needed to focus on clamping down on their play during the third period.

They did not do that last night, leading to a last minute goal by Patrick Maroon in which he outworked Carl Gunnarsson to score his 9th goal of the season. The defense wasn't sharp (again), Carter Hutton alternated between breathtaking saves and terrifying passes to the opposition.

Tonight Jake Allen's back in net. The defense could be better. Goaltending could be sharper. Vladimir Tarasenko will probably add a couple of points to his Art Ross race, because that's just what he does against the Stars.

This is your morning open thread. Check back a bit later on for a preview from JMill, your GDT, and whatever else strikes us. Head over to Defending Big D and say hi to the nice folks over there, and get ready for tonight's game by placing your pizza orders accordingly.
